Eric Kyle Mathias

October 23, 1972 - February 2, 2026

Eric Kyle Mathias (53 years) passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2026 in Tempe, AZ, joining his mother, grandparents, & many loved ones in Heaven. He was born in Dallas, TX to Donald & Gaylene Mathias on October 23, 1972.  He was raised in Duncanville, TX.  A graduate of Duncanville High School & the University of Texas at Arlington, he worked in the field of Mechanical Engineering for 30 years.

As a boy, Eric climbed trees & fished in the creek with his sister & friends, learned to camp, fish & water ski with his dad, enjoyed youth sports, BMX bikes, sports cars, & playing cards & dominoes with his grandparents. He loved helping Mom bake her homemade brownie recipe – his favorite with a glass of cold milk.

As an adult, Eric loved taking his Sea-Doos out on the lake with his own young family & friends, & teaching his boys to drive go-karts & swing a golf club. He enjoyed a good day on the golf course with his dad & sons, as well as trying new golf courses in the places his work led him throughout his years… from Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Utah, California, & Arizona. In addition to mechanical engineering, he also had a passion for aerospace dynamics, architecture & design.  He had great strength, determination, & perseverance through the hills & valleys of life. His proudest moments were spent watching his two sons, Gavin & Gage, whom he loved & shared with Christi Shipman Mathias, as they pursued their own passions & grew into the admirable young men they are today.

Eric was preceded in death by his mother, A. Gaylene Mathias. He is survived by two sons, Gavin (Hannah) Mathias & Gage Mathias, his father, Donald (Lavonne) Mathias, his sister Shelly (Doug) Durrwachter, his niece & nephew, all from Texas, as well as many cousins & extended family.

A family Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date in Texas.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to NAMI.
