Joseph Robert “Joe” Koehler, 42, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Dunwoody, GA passed away on July 16, 2026 due to cardiac arrest. He was born on October 6, 1983.
Joe was the beloved son of Dennis A. Koehler and Katy Tully Koehler (Pompe). He is survived by his two cherished daughters, Maria and Sophia; his former wife, Alicia Payne Koehler (Irving); his stepfather, Frank Pompe; his brother, Frank T. Pompe (McKellee); his sister, Susie Plitz (Ryan) and his stepmother, Barbara Stanfield Koehler; his brother, Jacob; and his stepsister, Nikki Keith (Nic). He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will remember him with love and affection.
A graduate of Dunwoody High School in Dunwoody, GA, Joe continued his education at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA. Throughout his life, he embraced a variety of occupations that reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to take on new challenges. He served as a deputy in a correctional facility and later worked installing pergolas. He lived and worked in several states, including Louisiana, Georgia, Missouri, and Arizona.
Joe will be remembered as a laid-back, easygoing man whose greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends and The Car Club. He was genuine, gentle and funny; that put others at ease and was known for his quiet strength and generous spirit. An avid reader, Joe especially enjoyed books on military history and fictional espionage, often losing himself in stories that reflected his curiosity and love of the military.
In one final act of generosity, Joe chose to become an organ donor, giving the gift of life and hope to others through his selfless decision.
In accordance with his wishes, Joe will be cremated. A private memorial service for immediate family will be held in Covington, Louisiana. His ashes will later be placed in the family crypt.
Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May his legacy of love, quiet resilience, and sheer will power continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
