With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Michael W. Montecalvo (affectionately known as Mickey), on December 28, 2024, at the age of 80, after a long courageous battle. Born on August 23, 1944, Mickey grew up in Stratford, CT, where he spent most of his life before relocating to Chandler, AZ, in 2020.
Mickey graduated from Stratford High School, after which he joined the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam veteran. Upon returning home, he dedicated his life to the auto repair industry, earning recognition as a master body repairman. His extraordinary talent and passion for antique and classic muscle cars shone through in every project, whether as a builder, painter, or racer. His garage was frequented by many other car enthusiasts, who loved to admire the latest project and share some laughs. Over the decades, Mickey worked tirelessly in various roles and concluded as a Lead Mechanic at Sikorsky Aircraft for 11 years.
Mickey was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. He found fun everywhere he went and shared that joy with those around him. His greatest pride and joy, however, were his cherished family and friends. His love for them was a constant and driving force, in his life.
Mickey was predeceased by his beloved parents, Michael A. Montecalvo and Adeline Mancini Montecalvo and grandson John A. Oliver. Mickey is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Rosemary Montecalvo of Chandler, AZ, who stood by his side with unwavering love and caring support. Mickey is also survived by his brother, Albert Montecalvo (Karen) of Danbury, CT; his sister, Linda Montecalvo of Westport, CT; and his foster sister, Maryann Weed of Stratford, CT.
His legacy continues through his children: son John P. Oliver (Kelley) of Millville, NJ; daughters Tracy Grebla (Joseph) of Shelton, CT; Suzanne O’Neil (Richard) of Lake Worth, FL; Virginia Bruni (Bill) of Chandler, AZ; sons Timothy Oliver (Nancy) of Dallas, TX; Michael Montecalvo of Chandler, AZ.
Mickey’s life was further enriched by the pride he took in his 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He also deeply loved his Donegan in-laws, his nieces and nephews, his many cousins and extended family (Grace Marie Reich and children), his wonderful neighbors and work friends, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
A service and Celebration of Life will be held in Connecticut this spring to honor a man whose love, laughter, and warmth will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
Mickey’s life was a testament to resilience, passion, and unconditional love—a legacy that will live on through the many lives he touched.
